Agriculture Education

WVHS

What We Offer

At West Valley High School, our Agriculture Department offers a variety of hands-on, career-focused classes that help students explore the world of agriculture while building real-world skills. These courses are designed to prepare students for college, careers, and leadership roles in a wide range of agricultural industries.
Whether students are interested in working with animals, growing plants, learning about soil science, or using tools and technology in ag mechanics, there’s a class for everyone. Each course combines classroom instruction with labs, fieldwork, and opportunities to earn certifications — giving students a head start on their future.

Our Courses At A Glance

  • Agriculture Mechanics 1, 2 & 3
These hands-on courses teach students how to safely use tools and equipment while learning skills like welding, fabrication, electrical systems, and construction. Each level builds on the last, preparing students for careers in ag mechanics and the trades.
  • Plant & Soil Science
Students dive into the science behind plant growth, soil health, and sustainable agriculture practices. This class includes greenhouse work, lab experiments, and real-world plant projects.
  • Viticulture
In this course, students learn the science and art of grape production, vineyard management, and the role of viticulture in California agriculture. Our 1-acre vineyard, in partnership with Adolfo Winery, provides a unique, hands-on experience.
  • Animal Science
This course focuses on the anatomy, physiology, care, and management of livestock and companion animals. Students gain a solid foundation for careers in animal agriculture and veterinary fields.
  • Veterinary Science
Designed for students interested in animal health and veterinary careers, this course offers hands-on labs in our on-campus veterinary hospital and covers topics like animal behavior, diseases, first aid, and clinical procedures.
