Grapevine Judging CDE Contest
The Grapevine Judging CDE challenges students to evaluate the health, structure, and productivity of grapevines used in viticulture. You'll develop a strong foundation in plant science, pest management, and vineyard evaluation—perfect for future careers in agriculture, viticulture, and crop consulting.

- Vine Evaluation: Assess grapevines based on uniformity, cane development, node spacing, and overall vine balance.
- Pest & Disease Identification: Spot signs of common vineyard issues such as mildew, mites, and nutrient deficiencies.
- Viticulture Knowledge: Learn how climate, soil, and pruning affect grape yield and quality.
- Judging Format: Participate in written exams, visual assessments, and oral presentations where you'll defend your rankings.
Competition Levels:
- Chapter: Practice vine scoring and learn evaluation techniques as you prepare for higher levels.
- Sectional & Regional: Test your knowledge in live judging rounds and written exams.
- State Finals: Represent West Valley at Fresno State or a designated site, showcasing your vineyard evaluation skills.
