Agriculture Learning Center

Agriculture Learning Center

The Agriculture Learning Center (ALC) serves as the central hub for hands-on learning within the agriculture program. It is where students apply classroom knowledge to real-world agricultural practices through labs, projects, and daily operations.

Located on campus, the ALC includes specialized areas designed to support different pathways, such as plant and soil science spaces, animal care facilities, and work areas for agricultural mechanics and project-based learning.
Students use the ALC to:
  • Conduct lab activities and experiments
  • Develop and maintain Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) projects
  • Practice industry-relevant skills
  • Prepare for competitions, certifications, and career pathways

The ALC is not only a learning space, but also a working environment where responsibility, problem-solving, and technical skills are developed through hands-on experience.
The facility also supports collaboration between students, staff, and visiting programs, making it a valuable resource for both our school and the broader agricultural education community.

What You'll Find At The ALC

The Agriculture Learning Center is made up of multiple specialized areas designed to support hands-on learning across different agricultural pathways. These spaces may include:
  • Animal care and housing facilities
  • Greenhouse and plant production areas
  • Vineyard or crop production spaces
  • Agricultural mechanics shop
  • Outdoor lab and work areas

Each area within the ALC is designed to mirror real-world agricultural environments, allowing students to work in settings that reflect actual industry conditions. Rather than being limited to a single classroom, students move between these spaces depending on their pathway and project, gaining exposure to a wide range of agricultural systems. This layout not only supports different types of learning but also helps students understand how various areas of agriculture connect and function together as a whole.

What Students Do Here

At the ALC, students actively apply what they learn in the classroom through hands-on experiences. Students may:
  • Perform welding, carpentry, and fabrication projects
  • Care for and manage livestock
  • Grow and maintain plants and crops
  • Conduct labs focused on plant and soil science
  • Participate in vineyard or fieldwork activities

Through this work, students take on meaningful responsibilities and engage directly in the learning process. They are not just observing; they are actively participating, whether that’s managing animals, completing technical projects, or conducting lab work. This approach strengthens their understanding while helping them develop practical, real-world skills.

What We Provide

The Agriculture Learning Center offers a wide range of facilities and resources that support hands-on learning across multiple areas of agriculture.
  • A 2,000 sq. ft. agricultural mechanics shop equipped with the tools and equipment needed for woodworking, welding, and fabrication projects
  • A veterinary lab with the proper tools and equipment to support hands-on learning in animal health and care
  • A 1-acre vineyard where students gain experience in plant systems and vineyard management while applying concepts learned in the classroom
  • An animal housing area where students care for and manage livestock as part of their daily responsibilities and projects
  • A 1-acre pasture that provides space for animals to graze and supports proper livestock management practices
  • A second farm site used for housing supplies and expanding student project space
  • Garden fields where students can grow crops and practice soil and plant management techniques
  • A fruit tree orchard that allows students to learn about perennial crop production and maintenance

These resources give students the opportunity to work in real agricultural settings, helping them build practical skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the systems they study in the classroom.
"The ALC functions as a small, working agricultural community where multiple disciplines come together in one place"
